Taj Mahal The Taj Mahal is a white marble tomb in Agra, India, built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its beauty, symmetry, and stone inlays. Location: Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on the bank of the Yamuna River. Built By: Emperor Shah Jahan. Time Span: Built between 1631 and 1653 (about 22 years). Workers: Over 20,000 people helped build it. Materials: White marble from Makrana with 28 types of precious and semi-precious stones.
