The digital clock on Rita’s dashboard glowed 11:34 PM as the rain hammered against her windshield. She was driving down a deserted, winding mountain pass, hours away from the nearest town. Suddenly, her phone buzzed with an emergency alert. She picked it up, expecting a flash flood warning. Instead, the screen displayed a chilling message from the local police department: “EMERGENCY ALERT: Escaped convict in the Area. Suspect is driving a stolen black SUV. Do not stop for anyone. Lock your doors.” Rita’s heart skipped a beat. She gripped the steering wheel tighter and glanced into her rearview mirror. Two bright headlights blinked into view. A massive vehicle was accelerating rapidly behind her. As it drew closer, the high beams blinded her, but she could see the unmistakable, heavy silhouette of a black SUV. It was riding her bumper, aggressively trying to push her off the slick road. Terrified, Rita slammed her foot on the gas. Her tires drifted dangerously on a sharp turn. The SUV stayed right with her, flashing its lights frantically. Ahead, the road opened up into a straight stretch. The SUV pulled into the opposite lane, accelerating to draw parallel to her window. Rita looked to her right, bracing for the worst. Through the sheets of rain and tinted glass, she saw the driver. He wasn't looking at her with malice; he was wide-eyed, terrified, and screaming something. He was pointing wildly at her back seat. Before she could process his expression, she felt a sudden, icy draft from behind her, and the rearview mirror revealed a dark shadow rising from the floorboards. #story #thriller For the next part of the story, check comments

The dark shadow resolved into a man gripping a rusted hunting knife. Rita didn't scream; terror froze the air in her lungs. "Keep driving," a raspy voice hissed near her ear. "Don't look back." The convict had been hiding under her luggage the entire time. Outside, the black SUV rammed into Rita’s passenger side. The impact jolted the steering wheel, forcing her car to skid toward the muddy shoulder. The convict lost his balance, tumbling forward against the dashboard.
